Ten Tips for History Taking

A new set of medical students has just arrived at our hospital to start their clinical years. I’ve had the chance to talk to them about history taking and came up with these ten tips. If you have any of your own, feel free to put them in the comments section.

Excellent summary Simon. When I teach GP regs communication skills my top tip is be warm (in manner) and curious(about the pt, the disease, psychosocial etc etc). Second is to be themselves so not acting a part, if they hear a phrase/question they like from another doctor/HCP customise it to suit themselves
